Ingredients

The filling

  • 1 cup chopped yellow or sweet onion
  • 1 cup chopped green or red pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 2 cups veggie broth
  • 1 cup dried green or brown lentils
  • 15 ounces tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Tamari or soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • to taste sea salt

To serve

  • 8 pieces burger buns
  • to taste pickles
  • to taste shredded cabbage or lettuce
  • to taste baked oven fries

Instructions

  1. Sauté onion, pepper, and garlic until softened.
  2. Add lentils and cook for a few minutes.
  3. Add the remaining ingredients and cook for about 20-30 minutes, depending on your texture preference.
  4. Serve with your choice of toppings.
