Grilled French Toast

Ingredients

The French Toast

  • 1 loaf whole loaf of bread (white, Italian, challah, or brioche)
  • 5–6 units eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1–2 dashes cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 2–3 tbsp Triple Sec, Cointreau, Grand Marnier or orange juice (optional)
  • as needed spray or oil nonstick spray or oil for coating grill grates

The Strawberry Compote

  • 1 pint strawberries
  • 1–2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 2–3 tbsp sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla
  • as needed units whipped cream, Cool Whip or crème fraiche

Instructions

  1. Preheat the grill to medium heat and spray the grates with non-stick spray.
  2. Beat the eggs and mix in the milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and optional Triple Sec.
  3. Cut the bread into thick slices.
  4. Dip the bread slices in the egg mixture until saturated.
  5. Grill the slices until grill marks appear on one side, then flip and cook the other side.
  6. Prepare the strawberry compote by mixing strawberries with vinegar, sugar, and vanilla, and let it sit in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  7. Serve the grilled French toast with strawberries and whipped cream sandwiched inside.
