Swedish Braided Cardamom Bread

Instructions
- Warm the milk, sugar, and butter in a saucepan until the butter melts, then cool to warm bath temperature.
- Stir in the yeast and let it sit for 5 minutes to activate.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the milk mixture with flour, salt, cardamom, and one egg.
- Add more flour gradually until the dough forms a ball and is not sticky.
- Transfer the dough to an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and knead for 1-2 minutes, then let it rest for 10 minutes.
- Divide the dough into six equal portions and roll each into a rope.
- Braid three ropes together to form a loaf and tuck the ends under.
- Repeat with the remaining dough to form a second loaf.
- Place the loaves on a baking sheet and let them rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Prepare an egg wash with the remaining egg and milk, brush it on the loaves, and sprinkle with pearl sugar.
- Bake for about 20 minutes until browned, then cool before slicing.
