Ingredients

The filling

  • 8 cups sliced Braeburn apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)

The topping

  • ½ cup blanched almond flour
  • 2 tablespoons brown flaxmeal
  • ¼ teaspoon celtic sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 2 tablespoons palm shortening
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Place sliced apples in a 2-quart baking dish and set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, combine almond flour, flaxmeal, salt, cinnamon, and ginger.
  4. Mix in palm shortening, honey, and vanilla extract.
  5. Work the mixture with your hands until it forms a dough.
  6. Gently fold in the chopped pecans.
  7. Sprinkle the dough over the chopped apples in the baking dish.
  8. Cover and bake for 60-75 minutes.
  9. Remove from the oven and allow to cool uncovered before serving.
