Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened to room temperature
  • cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup natural, unsweetened or Dutch-process cocoa powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 tablespoons milk (preferably not skim)

Instructions

  1. 1. Mix softened butter until light and creamy.
  2. 2. Add powdered sugar and sift cocoa powder into the bowl.
  3. 3. Mix in salt, vanilla, and 2 tablespoons of milk on low speed until combined.
  4. 4. Add more milk as needed and increase speed to medium, mixing until creamy and fluffy.
  5. 5. Press through frosting with a silicone spatula to remove air bubbles.
  6. 6. Use immediately or store in the refrigerator for several days.
