Ingredients

The pickles

  • 1 jar dill pickle chips (16-oz.)

The batter

  • 1 cup flour
  • cup cornmeal
  • 1 tablespoon granulated garlic
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • ½-1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon white or black pepper

The wet mixture

  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat a deep-fryer to 375°F or heat vegetable oil in a large skillet for deep frying.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix flour, cornmeal, garlic, onion powder, cayenne, and white pepper.
  3. In another medium bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg.
  4. Dip pickles in the buttermilk mixture, then coat with the cornmeal-flour mixture.
  5. Fry the pickles in batches, avoiding overcrowding the pan.
  6. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 1-2 minutes.
  7. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels without stacking.
  8. Serve warm to maintain crispness.
