Smoky Tempeh Bacon

The tempeh

The marinade

vegetable broth or water

soy sauce

apple cider vinegar

maple syrup

garlic powder

teaspoon
onion powder

teaspoon
smoked paprika

olive oil or canola oil
Instructions
- Slice the tempeh widthwise into 20-22 thin pieces.
- Optionally, steam the sliced tempeh for 10 minutes to remove bitterness.
- Whisk together the marinade ingredients in a small bowl.
- Line the tempeh in a baking dish and pour the marinade over it, marinating for at least 15 minutes.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and add oil to coat.
- Add the marinated tempeh to the skillet, reserving the marinade.
- Sauté until golden on one side, then flip and pour in the reserved marinade.
- Continue cooking until the marinade evaporates and the tempeh reaches desired crispiness.
