Best Baked Potato

Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 450°F with a rack in the middle.
- Scrub the potatoes clean and prick them with a fork about ¼-inch deep, six to eight times per potato.
- Place the potatoes on a cooling rack or directly on the oven rack and bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour until tender.
- Remove the potatoes and brush each with melted butter or oil, then sprinkle with salt.
- Return the potatoes to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes for crispy skin.
- Cut slits across the top of each potato and gently push the ends towards the center to fluff the insides.
- Add desired toppings and serve immediately.
