Berry Compote

Instructions
- Slice the bread into 3/4 inch thick slices.
- Whisk together eggs, half and half, maple syrup, orange zest, spices, and salt until smooth and pour into a shallow container.
- Dip the bread slices into the custard for 2-5 minutes on each side and let excess drip off.
- Heat a skillet to medium-low, add butter, and cook the soaked bread slices for about 3 minutes per side until golden.
- For the berry compote, simmer maple syrup and 1 cup of berries, then mix orange juice with cornstarch and add to the mixture until thick.
- Stir in the remaining berries and serve the French toast topped with the berry compote.
