Ingredients

The burgers

  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 lb Swiss cheese
  • 6 units hamburger buns
  • 1 tbsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • vegetable oil to taste for grill
  • water to taste to melt cheese

The toppings

  • 12 oz baby bella mushrooms

Instructions

  1. Form the ground beef into 3-4 ounce burger balls, yielding 8-10 balls.
  2. Let the meat come to room temperature while prepping other ingredients.
  3. Mix kosher salt, black pepper, and garlic powder in a small bowl.
  4. Brush and rinse the baby bella mushrooms, then pat dry and slice.
  5. Preheat the griddle to 400-425°F.
  6. Add a tablespoon of oil to the griddle and sauté the mushrooms for 3-5 minutes until caramelized.
  7. Add the burger balls to the griddle, spacing them 3 inches apart.
  8. Smash each burger ball into a patty using a burger press.
  9. Season the patty and cook for 2-3 minutes, then flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  10. Top each cooked patty with slices of Swiss cheese and add water around the burgers to help melt the cheese.
  11. Stack two patties for each burger and top with sautéed mushrooms.
  12. Remove from the griddle and place on hamburger buns.
