Ingredients

The ribs

  • 2 racks baby back ribs

The spice rub and sauce

  • cup BBQ spice rub
  • 1 ½ cups apple juice
  • 2 cups BBQ sauce
  • ¼ cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the smoker to 225°F and load it with wood chips.
  2. Remove the membrane from the ribs and coat them with the BBQ rub.
  3. Place the ribs bone side down in the smoker and smoke for 3 hours, basting with apple juice every 30 minutes.
  4. After 3 hours, mix 1 cup apple juice, 1 cup BBQ sauce, and brown sugar in a bowl.
  5. Pour the mixture over the ribs and wrap them in foil.
  6. Return the wrapped ribs to the smoker and smoke for an additional 2 hours.
  7. Remove the foil, brush the remaining BBQ sauce over the ribs, and increase the smoker temperature to 250°F.
  8. Smoke the ribs uncovered for 1 more hour, then let them rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
