Hot Spiced Apple Cider

Ingredients

  • 10 pieces apples (mix of gala, honey crisp, and Granny Smith)
  • 1 piece orange (sliced, peel removed)
  • ½ tablespoon whole cloves
  • 1 piece whole nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon pimento seeds or whole all spice
  • 3 pieces cinnamon sticks
  • 10 cups filtered water
  • ½ cup maple syrup or agave nectar

Instructions

  1. Chop the apples and cut the orange into quarters.
  2. Add the fruit, spices, and filtered water to the slow cooker and stir.
  3. Cook on low for 7-8 hours or high for 4 hours.
  4. One hour before finishing, mash the fruits and stir in the maple syrup.
  5. Continue cooking for the last hour.
  6. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth and serve warm.
