Slow Cooker Bolognese Sauce

Ingredients

The meat and bacon

  • 6 slices bacon or pancetta, coarsely chopped
  • 1 pound ground beef (90% lean)

The vegetables

  • ½ cup onion, finely diced
  • ½ cup carrot, peeled and finely diced
  • 2 teaspoons garlic, minced

The seasonings

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley

The sauces

  • 24 ounces jar marinara sauce
  • 15 ounces can tomato sauce

Instructions

  1. Cook bacon in a pan over medium-high heat until crispy, about 5-6 minutes.
  2. Remove the bacon and drain excess grease, leaving about 1 tablespoon in the pan.
  3. Add ground beef to the pan, season with salt and pepper, and cook while breaking it into small pieces for 4-5 minutes.
  4. Add diced onion and carrot to the pan and cook for another 4-5 minutes until softened.
  5. Stir in garlic and Italian seasoning, cooking for an additional 30 seconds.
  6. Transfer the bacon, beef, and vegetable mixture to a slow cooker.
  7. Pour in marinara sauce and tomato sauce, stirring to combine.
  8. Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours.
  9. Uncover, stir the sauce, and sprinkle with parsley before serving.
