Instructions
- Whisk together the flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder in a large bowl.
- Cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles peas.
- Add the buttermilk and stir to combine, kneading lightly if necessary.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and pat it into a square.
- Roll the dough into a 14-inch long rectangle and fold it in thirds.
- Rotate the dough 90 degrees and repeat the rolling and folding process two more times.
- Cut the dough into 9 equal pieces and chill them in the fridge for 30 minutes.
- Brush the tops with buttermilk and sprinkle with turbinado sugar if desired.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 400ºF for 25-30 minutes until golden.
