Ingredients

  • 12 oz fresh or frozen cranberries
  • ½ cup orange juice
  • cup maple syrup
  • ¼ cup port wine (or water)
  • 1 tsp orange zest
  • ¼ tsp fresh grated ginger
  • 2 sticks cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, mix together the cranberries, orange juice, orange zest, maple syrup, port wine, cinnamon sticks, and fresh ginger.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat, cover, and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring frequently.
  3. Once the cranberries start to pop, turn off the heat to prevent mushiness; the sauce will thicken as it cools.
  4. Optionally, leave some cranberries whole or mash them to your desired consistency.
  5. Let the sauce cool for about 20 to 30 minutes before serving.
