Ingredients

Gyro Meat

  • 2 lbs lean ground beef
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 3 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • 2 tsp cumin
  • 4 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp red wine vinegar

Gyro Toppings

  • 2-4 pieces pita pockets
  • ¼ cup red onion, chopped
  • 1 piece tomato, chopped
  • ½ cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 1-2 cups cooked french fries (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Mix all gyro meat ingredients in a stand mixer until smooth and tacky.
  3. Press the meat mixture into a loaf pan and place it on a baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 60 minutes until the meat is cooked through and no longer pink.
  5. Let the meat cool for 15 minutes and then slice thinly.
  6. If desired, sauté the slices in a hot pan with oil until golden brown.
  7. Cook the fries according to package directions and season them.
  8. Assemble the gyros by filling pita pockets with tzatziki, fries, gyro meat, onions, tomatoes, and feta cheese.
