Instructions
- 1. Combine the flour, sugar, cornmeal, and salt in a food processor and pulse a few times.
- 2. Add the butter and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse meal.
- 3. Slowly pour in the buttermilk while processing until the dough forms a ball, then refrigerate for at least 45 minutes.
- 4. Preheat the oven to 350°F and roll out the dough into a 14-15 inch circle on parchment paper.
- 5. Arrange the apple slices in a spoke pattern on the dough, leaving a 2-inch border.
- 6. Mix the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter in a bowl to make the streusel topping, then sprinkle it over the apples.
- 7. Fold the dough border over the apples, brush with egg, and sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
- 8. Bake for 45-50 minutes until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown, then cool before serving.
