Instructions
- If using fresh corn, shuck the ears and remove the kernels; if using frozen corn, thaw it.
- Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Whisk in the whole wheat flour and cook until smooth and slightly golden.
- Gradually whisk in the milk to avoid lumps.
- Add the corn, sugar (if using), salt, and black pepper; stir to combine.
- Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 10 to 12 minutes until corn is tender and sauce thickens.
- Stir in the heavy cream or half-and-half.
- Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly before serving.
- Serve warm as a side dish.
