Ingredients

Crust

  • 1 cup salted butter
  • ¾ cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • a pinch salt

Filling

  • 1 bag (11-ounce) caramel bits or soft caramels
  • 1 can (14-ounce) sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • to taste coarse kosher salt

Topping

  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1 cup semisweet or bittersweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup Heath toffee bits
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare a 9x13-inch baking pan with foil and nonstick spray.
  2. Cream together the butter, brown sugar, and vanilla until light and fluffy.
  3. Mix in the flour and salt, reserving 1 cup of the mixture for later.
  4. Press the remaining dough into the bottom of the prepared pan and bake for 8-10 minutes until set.
  5. Melt the caramels with sweetened condensed milk and butter in the microwave, stirring until smooth.
  6. Add vanilla and a pinch of salt to the melted caramel and drizzle over the crust.
  7. Sprinkle the white and semisweet chocolate chips, toffee bits, and pecans over the caramel layer.
  8. Crumble the reserved dough over the top and return to the oven for 20-25 minutes until bubbling.
  9. Allow to cool completely before cutting into squares.
